The world

Epirus
The river the dead were said to cross. Its cold springs still rise out of the rock above Glyki.
DID YOU KNOW Homer sends Odysseus here to speak with the dead. The gorge is still so narrow in places that the sun reaches the water only at midday.
Thessaly
The mountain of the gods, rock and cloud above the plain of Pieria. In the book, every path to it is sealed.
DID YOU KNOW No one is recorded reaching the summit until 1913. For nearly three thousand years the peak the Greeks called the Throne stayed untouched.
Epirus
Where the Acheron slowed into marsh, the Greeks placed the oracle of the dead. The lake is gone. The ruins are not.
DID YOU KNOW Pilgrims to the Nekromanteion fasted for days and walked a dark maze of corridors before the souls were said to answer. The lake itself was drained in the twentieth century.
